Hello! I'm Candice
Visual storytelling and fine art portraiture is my passion. I love working with people and telling a visual story with a creative and honest voice. Every session is unique based on the location, the natural aspects of the environment, the people I'm photographing and mostly by the story that unfolds in front of me. Because of the way I work, my sessions are interactive – we will be on the move. My photography style is ethereal and journalistic.
My love for photography began early when I adopted my father's old AE1 Canon. I started photographing for fun – anything and everything. In high school, I signed up for my first photography class and fell in love with the darkroom and the printing process. Later, I continued my formal photography education while attending college.
My formal education began at VCU. After marrying my husband and moving across the country, I couldn't afford a big college education so I enrolled into a few art and photography classes at my local community college. It was at Mira Costa College where I met Penny my photography instructor. She was the one who pulled me aside and said, "Candice you truly have a talent for photographing people". I later graduated from Laguna College of Art & Design where I studied graphic design, photography and fine art. I graduated from LCAD with a BFA in Graphic Design.
When I'm not behind the camera, I love to be with my family. And... I love to entertain family and friends with a great homemade meal, visit local farmer's markets and wineries, eat my way through a city, drink vanilla lattes and treasure hunt at flea markets, thrift stores and antique sales.
Where will my session take place? Because I'm a natural light, on-location photographer, we will discuss and choose the perfect location for your specific session based on your style, needs and type of session. Newborn sessions are offered at my home studio, and at your home if there is ample natural light.
When do you offer sessions? I'm available most days Monday - Saturday. Occasionally, I'll schedule sessions on a Sunday but it's rare. On-location sessions are available during natural daylight hours. The late afternoon offers the BEST lighting conditions so it's my personal preference (usually 2 hours prior to sunset). Newborns are typically scheduled at 10am at my home studio.
What should I wear? I love fashion and styling! I’m here to help and offer styling consultations. I have several Pinterest boards dedicated to Family Fashion, Female High School Senior Fashion and Male High School Senior Fashion. Be sure to check them out! You can find my Pinterest boards under Candice McLean. However – I want to tell your story so be true to yourself so you feel comfortable and look your best.
Do you offer digital images? YES! Each collection includes digital images that you can download, and the amount varies based on the collection you purchase. And, you have the option to purchase additional digital images, prints, canvases, albums and more directly from your online gallery.
When will my images be ready? How will I receive them? You will receive your images via an online private password protected gallery two weeks from your session date. You will receive an email from me with your private link to your gallery. Each collection will offer a minimum of images available to view. Individual images are available in both color and black & white. How many images you are able to download depends on the collection you purchase. You have the option to purchase additional images with any of the collections.
Can I share my images online? Absolutely! Just be sure to always provide credit to Candice McLean Photography. You will also receive a Print Release with your downloads.
